The Soldier

Published August 29, 2014 by eternalros3

A friend of the family asked me to write lyrics about a soldier alone, on a quest for a survival against his own fears. This is what I came up with:

The Soldier
The sky; bleeding red
Illuminating the eyes of the dead.
As darkness draws near
Alone I sit, giving into fear.
The silence so loud
The final end, by blood avowed.
These echoes of voices past
Consumed by the monster’s grasp.
And upon reflection
It was me consumed by this infection.
Motivation, valor –
Is that what we truly fight for?
To move on, face the truth;
Reversion of man to beast, no ruth,
Or stay until the final drop, shell-shocked
And finally make this nightmare stop!

“Hereeeeeeeeeeeeee’s Johnny!”
…All work and no play really does make Jack a dull boy. But if Jack is dull from brain trauma / a lacking social life, and Jill suffers from unknown complications shortly after, where does that leave the rest of us?
Who sent these two lumbering idiots after the town’s water supply anyway? Why am I even discussing this with you? – I was supposed to be throwing a potluck gathering celebrating my return to the blogging world. And by potluck I mainly mean you do all the legwork. Hey, I’m here for entertainment and inspiration after all.

I had something funnier floating around my brain, but that’s all you’re getting for now.
More to come! I have one nearly finished poem on my computer, and two more drafts floating around this blog. My goal is to set aside some semblance of time to get my thoughts organized and on paper, though I do wish I could try for my original goal of writing out a daily prompt.
I’m tossing around some plans regarding where I want this blog to go. Hopefully my goal of getting at least a drafted idea by Christmas can be met, but we’ll see. For now, let me resurface a classic video I posted on my food blog:
